Do you want to learn the basics of handbuilding out of clay? Our 4-week pottery course is a great opportunity for anyone who wants to slow down, learn something new, or refresh their skills. In this intensive course you will learn the essential techniques that will give you the foundation to create from clay: pinching, coiling, and slab-building. In the final session you will glaze or paint your pieces. Your teacher will guide you through the process while encouraging you to explore and experiment.
Introduction to ceramic processes and the pinch technique.
Introduction to the coiling technique — the ideal method for building larger objects by stacking rolled ropes of clay.
Learning the slab-building technique using flat sheets of clay to create plates, tiles and angular forms.
Glaze all your pieces using different techniques: dipping, brushing or pouring. Underglaze colors for painting are available too.
Throughout the course you'll also learn decorating techniques such as texturing and stamping, and how to join different clay parts — like adding handles to mugs.
Please note: This is a 4-week commitment. All sessions build upon each other, so consistent attendance is important for the best learning experience. Colors and sizes may change slightly during the drying and firing process.
