Continuous Handbuilding is a guided weekly class for anyone who wants to build confidence with clay, develop their technique and work on personal ceramic projects at their own pace.
Your instructor is there throughout the session to demonstrate techniques, help you plan and construct your pieces, answer questions and give individual feedback as your work develops.
There is no fixed project that everyone has to follow. You can explore techniques such as pinching, coiling, slab building, joining, texture and surface decoration while developing ideas that are your own.
Beginners are welcome, as are participants with previous experience who want regular studio time with more structured guidance and support.
Everything you need for your session and the finishing of your work is included.
Up to 1 kg of clay per session, together with the basic materials needed for your project.
Full use of our handbuilding tools and studio equipment during the class.
Active support with techniques, construction, project planning and individual questions throughout the session.
Glazing and firing of finished work made during the session are included for regular studio-sized projects.
A few practical things to know before your class.
You are welcome to bring reference images or a project idea, but your instructor can also help you decide what to make.
Projects can be developed over more than one session when the ceramic process allows it.
Clay can get messy, so we recommend comfortable clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty.
