About this workshop
Nerikomi is a traditional Japanese ceramic technique that creates patterns by combining clays of different colours. Through layering, shaping and slicing the clay, the patterns emerge within the material and continue throughout the finished piece.
During this 3-hour hands-on workshop, you will prepare coloured clay using ceramic pigments and explore how different colour combinations, layers and cuts can create unique Nerikomi patterns.
You will then reveal the patterns by slicing the prepared clay and use plaster moulds to shape your own small ceramic plates. Every pattern develops differently, making each finished piece completely unique.
The workshop is suitable for complete beginners as well as participants who already have experience with ceramics.
