About this workshop
Kintsugi is the Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics while making the traces of repair visible rather than hiding them.
In this workshop, you'll explore an accessible modern approach to Kintsugi and learn the basic steps involved in reconnecting broken ceramic pieces and highlighting their cracks.
The session is designed as an introduction and does not require any previous experience.

Before you come
Please prepare your ceramic piece before coming to the workshop.
Bring your own piece
Please bring one or two broken ceramic pieces that you would like to work on.
Keep it manageable
Pieces should be approximately hand-sized and ideally broken into two or three shards.
Choose a simple form
Open or shallow ceramic forms with relatively smooth surfaces are generally easiest to work with.
Practice piece
If needed, a practice ceramic piece can be provided in the studio.

Important to know
This workshop uses a modern Kintsugi method and an alternative gold-coloured powder rather than the full traditional urushi process. Finished repairs are not guaranteed to be food-safe, so repaired pieces are recommended for decorative use.
